Gilvan Nunes was born in Vermelho Novo, Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1966. Since he can remember he was fascinated by nature, its colors and shapes and spent a lot of time drawing and painting. When he joined the highly regarded Visual Arts School at Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro in the mid-1980s, he was able to interact with other artists of his generation and with professors that were fundamental for his upbringing. At that moment the re-birth of Brazilian Painting was taking place and the Parque Lage was the core of this movement. Gilvan work in centralized in painting and he also works with drawings, collages and prints of themes that are invariably related to his view of nature’s constant transformation. Sculpting and glazing ceramics has been a recent passion and he performs it in parallel to painting. His work has been displayed in several collective and solo shows, as well as art fairs in different cities of Brazil, Africa, Europe and the USA.
In 2017, Gilvan moved to Wayne, PA which has inspired the artist to create a new series of oil paintings and glazed ceramic.
Gilvan is currently represented by Galeria Patricia Costa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the InLiquid Gallery in Philadelphia, USA.
